Lars Lorenz

Lars Lorenz is the Director of Operations at Institute for Methods Innovation. He manages the operations team to ensure that efficient processes and tools are available to the full team at IMI for completing their work. This includes facilitation between the different departments at IMI to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and in line with best practice and expectations.

Lars completed his degree in Science Communication and Bionics at Rhine-Waal University, writing his thesis on a large-scale dataset of German press releases using self-designed automated tools for data collection and analysis. As work package leader and scientific associate, he then managed the final conference of two large European funded RRI Projects (NUCLEUS and RRI-Practice) at his Alma Mater. Since joining IMI, he has contributed to over a dozen research projects, including some large EU projects, funded by the European Commission.

Over the last few years, he has already led and contributed to a range of publications, particularly on the use of data and analysis of large datasets. Topics range from surveys on responsible research and innovation, over energy usage in Europe, to COVID-19 behaviour in Germany. His specialty in research lies in the use and design of automated tools to streamline complex tasks and handle big datasets with minimal human intervention. He has utilised AI models for data analysis and has recently started the backend development for an internationally used mobile application as part of the AURORA Horizon 2020 project and his role as Research Associate at Institute for Science and Innovation Communication.
